Through Children's Eyes is a parent-child discussion of a book written about World War II and the Holocaust from a child's point of view. Our intention is to introduce children to prejudice and discrimination -- as experienced by children -- and lay a foundation for later study of the Holocaust.

Who? Children ages 9 and up and their parent(s)
When do parents begin teaching their children about the Holocaust, and how do they start?
Why?
The Holocaust is difficult to discuss, especially with children. How can our children learn about one of the worst events in history?
Sharing stories, particularly stories of children, enables us to envision what it was like to live in the past and think about what we might have done if we were there. Sharing stories with our children is one of the best hopes for instilling values of tolerance, acceptance, and empathy -- reducing the possibility of future "worst events."

What?
We will be discussing Twenty and Ten by Claire Huchet Bishop. Based upon actual events, twenty school children hide ten Jewish children from the Nazis occupying France during World War II. The story of these children is a breathtaking example of children in the role of rescuers.

What Might Children Learn?
- That personal risk may be necessary in order to stand up and do what is right
- That one person can make a difference
- That history repeats when people don't learn and understand the past!
